Proteininformasjonsressursen (PIR) er en datakilde for sekvenser og funksjoner av proteiner ved Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). [1] Den driver databasene PIRSF (Protein Family Classification System), iProClass (Integrated Protein Knowledgebase) og iProLINK (Literature Information & Knowledge).
historie
PIR ble grunnlagt i 1984 av National Biomedical Research Foundation (NBRF). I 2002 grunnla PIR proteinsekvensdatabasen UniProt sammen med EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) og SIB (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics) ved å slå sammen de enkelte databasene PIR-PSD , Swiss-Prot og TrEMBL .
